This is similar to what we have. Do you think that it is fair for the gov. to mandate insurance coverage? Car insurance? Health insurance?
Not really, but they have something just for injured person.
In Thailand, we have 3 levels for insurance.
First level covers for everything not matter you are right or wrong. They will fix your car.
Second level cover only when you have party. They don’t fix your car when you hit a tree or something.
Third level cover only party car. They won’t pay for your car.
Is car insurance mandatory in Thailand?
On Thursday, I talked with my friend about Toyota’s news. I asked his opinion because he also uses Toyota. He told me that he felt scared because the first important thing for him about cars was safety. And Toyota is a big brand. This was a very big problem for them that they have to solve immediately. From this conversation, I have learnt news experiences at car insurance and about used car.

What other stereotypes have you encountered since you have been here?

On Thursday afternoon, I met my math classmate in Oliver Hall and we talk about math. First, we started talk about how do we think about math. I told her I really don’t like math since I was in middle school because I’m not good at it. However, she was confuse because she told me that she heard that Chinese are very good at math, why I said I’m not good at math. Then I explained to her. On the contrary, she really like math, and she think the MATH 141 is very easy. From this conversation I know that American think Chinese people are good at math, but actually there also have many Chinese are not good at math. I think the reason why they think Chinese are good at it is because we already learned the main knowledge in middle school, so when we are in United States, we can figure out the math questions quickly.
How did you meet Albert?
On Tuesday afternoon, I met Albert who is a friend of my friend at the library. We spoke about partying in the U.S. and South Korea. First, we found some similarities and differences between our cultures. In Korea, some college students force drinking alcohol to freshmen students. Koreans place a lot of importance on age, so it is a common event that freshmen should drink alcohol when they drink with seniors even if they do not want to drink. In America, hazing sometimes occurs, usually about alcohol when college students want to join a fraternity. Also, in Korea, people drink for the social experience because they can make a social relationship when they drink together. In contrast, Americans can have social life without drinking. Albert said that they drink to just have fun and to have a good time. Lastly, I learned that Americans cannot have open bottles and drink in public. Also, they have to hide the label of bottles. It was surprised to me because we don’t mind about that much. There were much more different aspects than I realized. It was a really good chance to talk about different drinking cultures of America and South Korea. There were many different cultures about drinking alcohol between Korea and America, but I thought that we should respect each other’s cultures though they are different.
