Traveling in a group led by a tour guide, or traveling independently

AS SUNG POINTED OUT, THE SHARING OF INFORMATION IS ALSO A GREAT POINT.  YOU COULD INCLUDE THIS AS A NEW PARAGRAPH OR IN PARAGRAPH 1.  YOU COULD EXPAND THE IDEA MORE BY DISCUSSING THE HISTORY THAT YOU COULD LEARN FROM THE TOUR GUIDE.  ALSO, YOU COULD INCLUDE A POINT ABOUT CONVENIENCE IN THE 3RD PARAGRAPH.  YOU SAVE BOTH MONEY AND TIME SINCE YOU DON’T HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW YOU ARE GOING TO GET FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER.

Some people say that for most people, the best way to travel is in a group led by a tour guide. I agree with this opinion.

1.     People will enjoy the companionship when they are traveling in a group. A group touring tends to have many members. These people travel together eat together and stay in the same accommodation. During the trip, they can make a new relationship and they will never feel lonely.

2.     People will enjoy the comfort and safety of group travel. Sometimes, traveling alone may face with dangerous situations. This might be because that people tend to have insufficient information about the touring places. However, a guide has a lot of information including places and he/she can give some useful tips.

3.      When people travel in a group, they can save the cost. Because there are a lot of places discounted when people are in a group. Therefore, people may be able to enjoy an economical trip.

I agree with his idea. 3 reason are good.  also, if people travel in a group, they can share their information. ^^

Universities should require students to take classes in many subjects

I AGREE THAT THERE IS SOME OVERLAP.  THE TWO MAIN POINTS SEEM TO BE THAT A VARIETY OF CLASSES ARE NEEDED TO MAKE STUDENTS WELL-ROUNDED AND PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE.  YOU COULD DEVELOP YOUR POINTS MORE BY SAYING THAT STUDENTS MIGHT NOT  HAVE HAD ENOUGH EXPOSURE TO A VARIETY OF TOPICS IN HIGH SCHOOL SO THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THEM. YOU COULD ALSO SAY THAT UNIVERSITIES SHOULD BE PREPARING STUDENTS NOT ONLY FOR WORK BUT TO BE CULTURALLY AND SCIENTIFICALLY LITERATE RESIDENTS WHO ARE PREPARED TO ACTIVELY EVALUATE AND PARTICIPATE IN WHAT HAPPENS IN SOCIETY.

yisaak:

: Universities should require students to take classes in many subjects for three reasons.

1.The main purpose of universities is giving a opportunity to accumulate knowledge of all students. Students try to learn more by taking classes. However, some students want to take classes only what they want. This will not help to collect their knowledge in many ways. Therefore, universities should require students to take classes in many subjects.

2. students will be given more options to choose their futures. If students take many different subjects, they will realize what they really want to do in the future. While they are learning, they will find which is good or which is not good for themselves.

3.It will give them wide sence by taking many subjects. People do not know what is going to happen in the future. If students learn as much as they can, they will know many kinds of information and they can apply to their real lives when they need.

Your supporting details are very reasonable. However, I think that your 2nd and 3rd details are almost same. You’d better to combine 2nd and 3rd. Your details would be perfect

Decisions can be made quickly, or they can be made after careful thought.

I AGREE WITH THE COMMENT BELOW.  I DON’T REALLY UNDERSTAND SUPPORTING POINT #3 (OR SUPPORTING POINT #2).  FOR 2, DO YOU MEAN THAT PEOPLE CAN SPEND MORE TIME FOCUSING ON WHAT NEEDS TO GET DONE AFTER HAVING MADE THE DECISION?  FOR EXAMPLE, IN A TIMED WRITING SITUATION, YOU MUST CHOOSE A THESIS STATEMENT QUICKLY.  YOU COULD ARGUE THAT IT IS BETTER TO SPEND YOUR TIME THINKING ABOUT THE SUPPORTING DETAILS THAN ON WHICH SIDE YOU WILL ARGUE.

yisaak:

tpqr11:

Thesis : People should make desicions quickly because emergency situations require quick decisions, people can save the time to prepare their goal, and peopla can develop their results.

support 1 : emergency situations require quick decisions

support 2 : people can make their time to prepare something

support 3 :  peopla can develop their results.

I think that your details are good. However, upon your 3rd supporting detail, I am not sure

Should a city try to preserve its old, historic buildings or destroy them and replace them with mordern buildings?

Would there be “no” tourists, i.e. 0? Be careful of words that suggest “all” or “none.”

What if I were to argue that old buildings are not necessarily environmentally friendly?  How could you refute my argument?

shimj:

A city should try to preserve its old, historic buildings by not destroying it.

One reason we have to keep old building is because it represents the beauty of own country. For example, there are tourists to see and feel many architecture by traveling other countries. If many historical buildings were replaced by modern buildings, threre will be no tourists. It stops many people from learning other cultures.

Another reason we have to keep and preserve old and historical buildings is because buildings are one of essential elements that scientists observe. The design, pattern, artifacts, and all the remains from the old buildings are all significant to archaeologists. Therefore, the historic buildings are important to some people because it remind them lives of the past.

Morden technology is creating a single world culture?

I look forward to seeing this posting completed.  What other cultures (specifically) exist besides technology?

yeajin:

Thesis Statement: I disgree with technology is creating a single world culture.

Support1: there still exist other culutures beside of technology.

technology is not only the culture of each countries.

Support2:

Charactereristics of good teacher

My main concern with your posting Sung, is that the question asked for the characteristics of a good class.  Although you seem to be saying that the teacher is very important, we still need more information about what makes a good class.

mowrk:

This is a good point about the qualities of a good teachers. However, you pointed out only one charactereristic. I think it will be perfect if you add two more.sunglee:

That student meet a good teacher is very important. The teacher can make right direction, student following the teacher.  In school, teachers should teach not only academic subjects but also skill how to make a good relationship. Therefore, a teacher is very important a person, the teacher should has good characteristics. The characteristics of good teacher are well prepared, open minded, and a good communicator.

How Important Is Intelligence For Success?

I look forward to seeing what parts of this article (and others) you decide to use to support your thesis that intelligence is the most important factor for success.

Standard intelligence tests focus a lot on exploring and measuring linguistic/logical/mathematical ability. But is that really the same quality as intelligence? Or is intelligence something broader than that?

We have all met people who have a lot of “book smarts” but seem to have no “life smarts.” Should we really be saying that they are intelligent? Some people who did poorly in school often turn out to be very successful in later life. Why do our current IQ tests seem unable to predict or explain these outcomes?

A person may have failed dismally in school, and yet turn out to be a genius in marketing. Is this person stupid, or brilliant? If a man is a great scientist, but can’t ever pick a suitable mate, is he really very smart?

Was Picasso inept because he wasn’t also a brilliant mathematician? Was Einstein inadequate because he wasn’t also a great artist?

Which of these two men had more intelligence? Is there more than one kind of intelligence? How should we define intelligence? Can we really measure it? What is intelligence, really?

Several experts in the field of intelligence have proposed that we need to broaden our understanding of what intelligence really is, and the role it plays in successful living.

Psychologist Howard Gardner of Harvard University has suggested that we should consider a wide range of talents and abilities as valid forms of intelligence.

In his intriguing book, “Frames of Mind: Theories of Multiple Intelligences”, Gardner has proposed the existence of at least seven types of intelligence: verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, social-interpersonal and intra-personal.

Another psychologist, Robert Sternberg, has suggested we consider three distinct forms of intelligence. One type is the ability to think logically and rationally, doing well in an academic type of environment.

A second kind of intelligence identified by Sternberg is the ability to come up with creative solutions to real life situations. And the third type, according to Sternberg, is the ability to psychologically understand people and interact effectively with them.

A very different perspective on the IQ issue is presented by Daniel Goleman in his best-selling book, “Emotional Intelligence”. Goleman offers an explanation for why a high IQ does not always lead to success in career or in life.

He says that EQ, or emotional intelligence, has been an overlooked factor that is an extremely important ingredient for success in life. An ability to get along with others, to be optimistic, to be determined, are among the many factors that contribute to success, perhaps even more than intellectual ability.

Are you starting to realize that intelligence is not just a question of one test score number that forever limits your possibilities? If we define intelligence primarily as an aptitude for mathematical and linguistic/logical thinking, we may be missing other forms of intelligence that are also important.

If you happen to know your own IQ score, don’t think of it as something that limits or defines your potential. If your IQ is in the average range it does not in any way mean you are limited to a life of average success and average accomplishment. If your IQ is in the above average range, it does not guarantee you a life of ease. You can’t use either a high IQ score or a low one as an excuse not to try very hard.

Your IQ score is only a number. It does not define you. It does not really limit you. It’s just a starting point. Remember that many other qualities you already possess or can develop are also important for success in life.

Preparation for Timed Writings

AW3 Students,

Please use your blog to share ideas re: timed writing topics with your classmates.  The more you prepare, the easier it will be to write.  I recommend that you challenge yourself with the more difficult topics.

I’m sorry to know that you are packing to leave but I hope that you have had a very good time here.  Best of luck as you return home.

lidarkomil:

On saturday, I was packing my stuff, and I was helping my roommate to pack her furnitures and her books.  At that time, we need boxes for packing, and we had to go to grocery shopping.  So we went to Kroger.  By going there, we passed my stragers, but they were saying to us “hello” or starting talking.  I thought this is culture, so I said that American culture is really friendly.  My roommate was laughing and asked to me “have you ever heard saying “Hello” from girls?”  After that, I noticed that I’ve never heard saying hello from girls.  My roommate said if man say hello to you, he wants to talk with you.  That is not culture.  At that time, that was really funny.  She said man makes sounds, if he wants to talk with a girl, in Peru.  She went there, and she heard that sounds, but she ignored.  Although I’ve never heard that sound, I don’t want to hear that.
